How to Think About Your Career

July 26th 2016

It’s precisely because I didn’t see my manager as a coach that I missed out on years of asking for and receiving training and feedback that would have helped me become better faster.

Coach, mentor, manager. These can all be the same thing, and sometimes – rarely – the same person. Julie's advice in her latest post rings true to me; one of the biggest level-ups I've experienced this past year has been finding a manager who acted as a coach and not as a judge. Someone who is willing to have honest conversations about the things that are going well and the things that I need to work on. And someone who pushes me to be a more valuable designer – both to the team, to the product, and to the organization; the trifecta of value.
