We got into currency design in last week's Design Details with Jasper Hauser. It's a fun topic because currency notes are so universal to the point of being an afterthought. When was the last time you really stopped to admire that $20 bill stuffed in your wallet?
The notes are a utility which serve a specific purpose. But every now and then a country or person makes a case for adding thoughtful design to an otherwise plain utility.
These prototype Norwegian notes are particularly gorgeous. The color and illustration and infusion of nature feel more rich and interesting than what one might see in the US.
