Firing People

May 17th 2016

That’s really been a hard lesson for me. I was pretty wrapped up in working there. It’s a broader concept, really, shoved down our throats in the tech industry. Work long hours and move fast. Here, try on this company hoodie. Have this catered lunch so you don’t have to go out into the real world. This is your new home. The industry is replete with this stuff.

This is my first encounter with Zach Holman's writing and it's not quite like anything I've read before: honest and transparent (as much as possible, it seems), critical, and thoughtful.

This particular piece was a long but particularly insightful read. Firing people, as it turns out, is complicated and nuanced. I love that Holman dispels the bullshit "fire fast" mindset right away – it's never that easy.
